What is RSI?

RSI (short for repetitive strain injury) is the name given to pain caused by repetitive movement of a specific body part.

These are the areas where RSI most commonly occurs:
  • Shoulders
  • Elbows (especially common in golfers and tennis players)
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Achilles tendons
  • Wrists, hands and fingers
The most common symptom of RSI is aches and pains in the affected area. These usually go away on their own once you've rested the strained body part, but if you're having problems with chronic RSI — perhaps because your job or hobby consistently overtaxes a particular part of your body — physiotherapy may help.

What are overuse injuries?

Overuse injuries are injuries caused by repetitive movements, bad posture or biomechanical issues, resulting in inflammation of the soft tissues. This can occur in any tendon or muscle.

Like RSI, overuse injuries often heal on their own if you rest the affected area. But if you experience pain in a joint or muscle for more than a few weeks, it may be a good idea to seek physiotherapy. Early intervention will prevent the condition from becoming chronic, meaning you'll require fewer treatment sessions in the long run.

What our patients say

“Last year I was recommended to use David following a bout of sciatica that was so severe I was hospitalised. David worked miracles and I am now completely pain free and able to live a normal active life again. He is not pushy, is extremely caring and takes times to explain what the procedures are. I would happily recommend him to anyone who has any back or sports injuries. Thank you for giving my life back.”Pauline Davies
